THE MACAW HABITAT
This cage is 750 square feet inside and 25 feet high at it's domed like top. The frame was originally sold as a large greenhouse frame but we saw it's potential right away. It is wired with a heavy gauge wire that is bird safe (no toxic welding) It's ground is completely wired and 20 yards of river rock covers the wire. This is to keep rats, snakes, squirrels and any other creatures from digging under and in.
The cage has water and plumbing ran to it. It's water system is state of the art. With water bowls being filled automatically 3 times daily that are set on timers. Well feel srtongly that fresh , clean, cold water is a must. The cage is equipped with 2 misters that are also set on timers to go off for 20 minutes 2 times a day. The birds love these, they take baths under them, enjoying the cool water on hot Florida days! The cage has a whole upper corner dedicated to shade and shelter from the rain if they so desire. We have intalled tinted plexiglass to the entire area and in inclimate weather you can often find them here. We have 2 feeding stations located in the double door entrance. Each one of these cages are 8x8 and completely covered with the tinted plexiglass as well. This has worked very well to keep the food dry, provide another cool place for them to hang out and they tend to eat in here and keep the large flight fairly clean from food. The bottom of these cages are filled with "sand" and discarded and uneaten food is raked into colonders and sifted daily. This has also worked beautifully. Both of these cages have high velocity fans attached to them and in the winter these are taken away and oil filled radiators replace them. We can get the temperature in 20-30 degree weather up to 60-70 in the winter. This cage fully equipped with perchs, toys, plants, feeding and water stations costs $30,000! Thisamount does not include the maintenances and food for the birds. This is why we have become a non profit so that we can build at least 3 more of these parrot-dise cages to permanatly house ,Greys, Cockatoos and a misc. small parrot cage divided up for Amazons, Quakers and other smaller parrot species. For more pictures of the flight cage visit the "more pictures" page.

Gabby, A Green Wing Macaw. Her wings were clipped when she came to us, she grew them out and we kept gently tossing her into the air until she learned to fly!!!!!
